Mallard Ice Cream is a bright counter-serve parlor offering seasonal ice creams crafted from area-sourced ingredients.

Every day people say that Mallard Ice Cream is the best ice cream they’ve ever tasted. The ice cream is made intheir shop, in salt and ice churns five gallons at a time. Over an hour of human time goes into each batch. They taste as they go and adjust at every step to get the best out of the ingredients. They believe intensity of flavor makes the very best ice cream, so they use a touch of organic cane sugar, a high butter fat mix, and generous portions of high-quality, real food ingredients.

Local sailor spots orcas in Bellingham Bay

BELLINGHAM Josh Marshall lives on a boat, works on boats and goes sailing several times a week, but after eight years living here he’s never seen an orca — until Monday night. Marshall went sailing with friends on Bellingham Bay May 2, but winds were light and most other boats headed in to Squalicum Harbor. When the winds finally kicked up, Marshall “started scooting across” the bay when he spotted a pod of orcas near Whatcom Waterway and the former Georgia-Pacific site on Bellingham’s waterfront. “They came right up to our bow and were being playful. They were goofing off like dolphins,” Marshall said.
